Service disrupted after man hit by train

EASTBOUND train service from Aljunied to Eunos stations was disrupted at 10.21am on Wednesday when a man was hit by a train at Paya Lebar Station.

To maintain service on the unaffected stretches of the East-West line during the incident, all eastbound trains were turned around at Aljunied Station, SMRT said in a statement.

Train services on the westbound and North-South Line were not affected.

Eastbound train service resumed at 11.02am.

A bus bridging service was deployed to ferry passengers between Aljunied and Eunos stations were affected during the incident.

Passengers were informed of the service disruption and free bus services through announcements, notices and the rail travel information system at affected stations, SMRT said.

SMRT said passengers who were unable to complete their journeys due to the disruption can claim a full fare refund from the Passenger Service centre in any of the 51 SMRT stations, within the next three working days.

Police investigations are in progress, SMRT said

payout... that's what people are banging for... playing with the mindset is one form of psychological warfare, intelligent beings like to leverage on. but guess majority are pretty much rationale, though doing things funny at times just to show how we like to be back in our ignorance age. ;)

Man falls onto MRT track, hit by train

"Tragedy at Tampines MRT," STOMPer Amyra said, while STOMPer Gregory Ng reported that "someone fell onto the tracks" after a 48-year-old man died on the spot after he was hit by an oncoming train on Tuesday evening (7 August).

According to STOMPer Amyra, this was the story that went around the station immediately after the incident.

"It was believed that a schoolgirl had jumped onto the tracks of the MRT station," the STOMPer said in a email on 7 August.

"It is a suicide as witnesses that I have spoken to said that she has jumped onto the track as soon as an oncoming train was in sight.

"The train service to Pasir Ris was delayed due to this incident."

STOMPer Gregory was also at Tampines MRT Station at the time of the incident.

"Someone 'fell' on tracks at Tampines MRT on 7/8/07. About 7pm. Trains between Tampines & Pasir Ris were stopped," the STOMPer said in an email on 7 August.

Both STOMPers sent photos of the situation at the station.

STOMP contacted SCDF and it said the victim is a 48-year-old Chinese man. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

'SCDF received a call about an incident at Tampines MRT Station at 6.32pm. A man was hit by a train and was pronounced dead by paramedics at 6.45pm," SCDF told STOMP on Wednesday (8 August).

"We can only say for now that he feel onto the track."

Platform screen doors for all above-ground MRT stations by 2012
« Reply #8 on: January 25, 2008, 08:14:35 AM »
PLATFORM screen doors will be installed at all above-ground MRT stations by 2012 to enhance the safety of rail commuters and reduce the incidence of track intrusions.

Transport Minister Raymond Lim said on Friday that the Land Transport Authority (LTA) has been studying the feasibility of installing platform screen doors on above-ground MRT stations.

Speaking during his visit to Kim Chuan depot on Friday morning, he said: 'With platform screen doors being adopted in more transit systems worldwide, their cost has fallen, making them more cost-effective now.'

He said the incidence of people entering the train track area of above-ground MRT stations has risen from an average of 16 cases a year to 30 in 2006, and 31 in 2007. Besides endangering lives, such incidents disrupt train services and inconvenience many commuters, especially during peak hours, said the minister.

'We will therefore install platform screen doors at all above-ground MRT stations, so that commuters can have safer and more reliable train services.' LTA will carry out a pilot at Yishun, Jurong East and Pasir Ris stations in 2009 to ensure that operational considerations are met, before rolling this out to all stations by 2012.

rather not drive. so many darn cars. and the parking.

btw, you can get yourself a folding bike n go up the MRT. after alighting from the train. unfold the bike and just ride away. *what Cobra is doing.
