Legacy GT Wagon vs Toyota Caldine GT
« on: April 10, 2007, 05:10:32 AM »
This is just a followup to the thread posted by Holm & Cary.

Legacy GT wagon probably under $103K now.

THE GOOD

1) AWD (ultimate in traction)
2) Boxer engine twin-scroll turbo at 245bhp
3) Rim-less windows, electric seats (driver & passenger)
4) MacIntosh system w woofer (reputedly costing approx $15k)
5) cruise control
6) more spacious (maybe but i'm biased)

THE BAD

1) Motor Image service is.... sigh.... no words to describe it.
2) Glove compartment lid warps out of shape.
3) McIntosh system: high failure rate

Toyota Caldina (some one have any experience)

Never been even on my 1st servicing

2) Glove compartment lid warps out of shape.

Agreed , there was once when I was driving halfway when it drop out . Even my driver cover lid also cannot closed properly

The Good
But after doing my Ecutek , I feel it is good enough already least for myself :D

Would say that it is an affordable car wif the bhp given but personally still enjoy the look of the Celica for sure.

Cheers

raymond,

it's Caldina. not the celica.

http://toyota.jp/caldina/index.html

of course the celica looks better... .P otherwise, whywould you guys have bought it in the first place?

and here's a little wiki :
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toyota_Caldina

3rd Generation (2002-Current)

The all-new Caldina of September 2002 is a pure sports wagon, and does not share body panels with Allion, Premio, and Avensis. Engine for the Caldina is either 1.8 liter 1ZZ-FE, 2.0 liter 1AZ-FE, and 2.0 liter turbo 3S-GTE. Trim levels are 1.8 X, 1.8 Z, 2.0 Z, 2.0 ZT, and 2.0 GT-Four (the later is coded ST246). All models have automatic transmission. Minor change was given in January 2005. With the discontinuation of Celica, the Caldina is one of sportiest Toyota sold in Japan.

The only thing I missed about Subarus is the Boxer Note. It gives my ear orgasm each time I hear it. Parts are aplenty given that the EJ25 and EJ20 powerplant uses very much the same parts as WRXes.

I was given the option by Garage R to go for the GT Wagon. Problem was, such cars are common and our ROV4 and ROV27 who knows my car plate very well knows Subarus inside out. Henceforth, I wanna get a car that is rare and almost un-noticeabe.

I have been 'bio-ing' the Caldina for the longest time really. Wanna get it long time ago. This time round, I called two different PI. One belonging to a ex Celica Dad and another was GR. Comparing the two prices, the former price was much more pricey. Hence, I decided to go the the latter. In so far, there are none on the road as the car will have to go through LTA inspection etc. Reckon mine will be the first. Doc, will show u once I get it. My XOS has arrived before my car manz.... dont I sound like another Andy boy?

:P

Cary shared in our thread at delphi its now S$11*K. Interested? Let's do a group buy ... kekeke.

Unfortunately GR do not have any in showroom to view. So you dont know what you're buying? But the engine is the grandmaster 3S-GTE 4th gen, build expect Toyota quality, dress-up not as much as Legacy GT-wag but look at those C-one body kit.

The wait was because of the dreaded strict Jipun VIA Inspections which LTA requires. I have waited since Feb. After mien is shipped in, the rest will be a breeze.

I exported my EVO after dekitting it to bone stock.
EVO Wagon? Nah..... I want something different & affordable.
