Remember that accident where everybody said it was your fault and the only thing you did was drive straight? Unless you drove straight into a pole in which case you’re an idiot, I’m sure you were wishing you had a recording of the moment of the accident, everybody does.
Now you can have the recording, Brickhouse Security has came up with a rearview mirror camera recorder. Using a small camera mounted on the back of the rear view mirror, you can record everything happening in front of your car. The footage is displayed on a 2.5 inch LCD screen integrated into the face of the rear view mirror. It also includes handy playback controls in case you want to see an instant replay of your accident, track blast, top speed attempt, drift attempt or your stunt through traffic.

Here’s how it works: it needs to be plugged into your cigarette lighter, recording begins when the engine is started and ends when the engine is turned off. The footage is saved to an SD memory card, and can be played back on any computer or television. Now you can get all the evidence you need to prove that you’re not that bad of a driver, just don’t end up with evidence showing you caused a major accident.

Video recorder for the vehicle

The ComTec In-Vehicle Digital Video Recorder is used in vehicles to capture live traffic conditions or scenic view. The camera is easily mounted on the car with no messy wiring. It uses either the 12V car adapter or 3xAAA batteries* for recording and SD card* for storing the data.

The camera has repeated and continuous recording so when the memory card is full, it can still record. The recorded clip is good for Insurance or Legal issue or recalling driving route and can be view on Computer via card reader or directly connect to a TV with the TV-out cable.

price is on the website. $158 i think.

it's a video recorder. it does alittle bit of encoding also, to avi/mp4. either low/mid/high res. depending on settings.

Make your own vehicle surveillance system

    * by Brian White on Sep 13th 2007 11:00AM

Gone are the days of $300 car alarm systems ore expensive Lo-Jack surveillance systems. Well, not quite in some cases. Even if you already have a factory-installed car alarm or some kind of mobile tracking security system, you can create a pretty inexpensive one using a cheap-o mobile phone and a standard car charger for your selected mobile model. You'll need some elbow grease, tape and maybe some wire as well.

Looking at the video below, this system is so simple it's ingenious. The premise works like this: you hotwire a mobile phone charger directly to your car's battery (thereby bypassing any fuse block issues), and connect it to your chosen mobile phone This can be a spare unit or a cheaper prepaid unit. This ensures the mobile phone has power all the time -- hence, it is "callable" all the time, and local cell towers are in contact with it constantly.

Now, if your vehicle is stolen, you can give the authorities the IMEI number from that in-car 'hidden' handset, which can then be tracked using cell tower triangulation or GPS, and hopefully recovered. You'll of course need some kind of airtime subscription to ensure that phone is operable at all times.

My friend totalled his 240sx at this years hyperfest.

He had been borrowing my trackmate. Based on reviewing the data he told me he could carry more speed through turn four. The he went back to the track with the resolve that he was going to get his speed up through turn 4. He was going about a 105 through the turn when he lifted...

He is so lucky - he didn't have a roll cage or a harness. His neck padding came in handy though. He walked away with a bruised ego...
