general trend is that the weather is getting wet.

wet equals slippery road.

worn tyres on wet slippery road - not a good idea.

fresh tyres on wet slippery road - what do you think?

slow down, fresh tyres on wet slippery road - as above.

S'pore-plate car racing in JB flips over, slams into motorcyclist
« Reply #242 on: July 23, 2008, 02:18:15 AM »

RACING recklessly in the wee hours of the morning was how three drivers allegedly got their kicks.

But on Sunday morning, their greed for speed killed one innocent motorcyclist in Johor Baru.

One of the three Singapore-registered cars hit a road divider and the driver lost control of the vehicle.

His car, a red Toyota Vios, flipped over and crashed into the back of a motorcyclist, killing him instantly.

China Press reported that the incident took place around 2.15am, just 3km from the immigration checkpoint.

The dead man, Mr Li Ming Hui, 29, a Malaysian software engineer, was on his way home from work in Singapore when the incident happened.

At that time, Mr Li had been waiting for the lights to turn green before making a right turn.

It was then that the car suddenly slammed into him from behind.

The collision crushed the motorcyclist.

The car driver and his two female passengers, all in their 20s, survived the accident.

The driver had a broken arm, while one of the women sustained broken bones in her hand.

Nevertheless, they managed to climb out of their vehicle after the collision.

another reason to consider highly rated NCap cars.

A 43-year-old administrative assistant was killed in Marang when this car collided head-on with another car at Km50.2 Jalan Kuala Terengganu-Kuantan, near Kampung Jambu Bongkok, yesterday.

Sabanan Yassin, from Kuala Ibai, Kuala Terengganu, was a passenger in the car driven by Mohd Khairul Azali Ramli, 28, a clerk, who broke both legs and has been admitted to Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital.

State public order and traffic police chief Superintendent Farid Mahmud said Sabanan and Khairul were heading towards Dungun from Kuala Terengganu when the car skidded and spun several times before colliding with the other car.

The driver of the other car, Carl Benjamin Kono, 64, from Kuala Lumpur, escaped unhurt.

He's too stubborn to listen: Speeding turns into a tragic accident

By Celine Lim

TIME and time again, his family had asked him to stop riding a motorcycle.

It was not just because Mr Ahmad Mohammad Iskandar, 23, did not have a licence.

What worried them was how he liked to speed on the roads.

His elder sister, Madam Siti Fatimah, 25, a customer service officer, said: 'We've seen him riding around here and he's not safe.

'The way he was riding, it's like he was going to die like that. We were all scared for him.'

Yesterday morning, their worst fears came true.

Mr Ahmad died on the spot after the motorcycle he was riding collided with a taxi at the junction of Sims Avenue and Sims Way at about 5am.

A witness said he saw the motorcyclist speeding along Sims Avenue when a traffic police patrol car tried to pull him over, reported Shin Min Daily News.

He fled instead, and the police officers gave chase.

When they got to a red light, the police officers stopped. But Mr Ahmad dashed ahead and into the path of an oncoming taxi.

Unable to swerve in time, the taxi which had been travelling along Sims Way towards Mountbatten Road, hit the motorcycle.

IMPACT

The impact flung Mr Ahmad and his pillion rider, Mr Ryan Ashley Pereira, 19, onto the road.

The taxi skidded another 20m and mounted a grass verge, ran into a row of tree saplings before finally stopping after crashing into the perimeter wall of a condominium.

The driver was seen sitting in his taxi, dazed, for some time until the paramedics arrived on the scene.

He then stepped shakily out of the taxi by himself.

A police spokesman said the driver, a Chinese man in his early 50s, was seriously injured but conscious.

The pillion rider had multiple arm and leg fractures.

Both were taken to Tan Tock Seng Hospital (TTSH).

The spokesman said a second motorcyclist skidded while trying to avoid the collision.

The rider, a Chinese man in his late teens, was also taken to TTSH for pain in his right knee and multiple abrasions.

Police investigations are on-going.

Mr Ahmad's mother, Madam Rahmah Sawan, 45, a housewife, was shocked by news of his death at 7.30am yesterday.

She last saw him on Monday night before he went out with his friends.

She said he did not always return home so she was not alarmed when she woke up to find that he was not at home.

Madam Rahmah said her son, the fourth of seven children, has a low IQ and went to a special school.

She said: 'He is talkative and friendly with those he knows, but he is too aggressive and gets into trouble easily.

'I always worry about him.'

Madam Rahmah said Mr Ahmad was released from prison last September after serving an 18-month sentence for rioting. She said he seemed to have changed for the better and was working at a pest control company until two months ago.

Madam Siti said her brother had wanted a motorcycle licence.

'But he had no money for one, so he took the risk and rode without a licence,' she said.

CAN'T CONTROL HIM

'All of us had advised him not to ride motorcycles, but he is stubborn. He's 23 already, how to control him? We can't monitor him all the time.'

She said the family does not know where he got the motorcycle from as he does not own one.

The two men's friend, Miss Yanni Radiana, 18, a sales assistant, said Mr Pereira also did not own any vehicles.

She said Mr Ahmad was taking Mr Pereira back to the latter's Haig Road home after a karoke session at Boat Quay when the accident happened.

She said the pair had met through a motorcycle group about six months ago and had quickly become 'best friends'.

The fiancee of Mr Pereira's elder brother, who wanted to be known only as Miss Sri, 23, said of the two: 'They're very close.

'They can't stop laughing when they are together.

'I don't think Ryan knows what happened to Ahmad. Ryan has been in surgery for more than 12 hours since the accident and is having difficulty pulling through himself.'

She said Mr Pereira had been going for motorcycle-riding lessons and was planning to get his licence in August.

Mr Pereira's step-mother, MadamAnnie Khee, 50, a clinic assistant, said: 'We last saw Ryan more than a month ago as he doesn't live with us.

'My heart dropped when his friends called me at about 1pm to tell me about the accident.'

She said that apart from fractures on his arms and legs, he also had a fractured spine and internal injuries.

His father, Mr Derek Pereira, 50, a civil servant, said: 'Usually it's the pillion rider who goes first before the rider in a motorcycle accident.

'Maybe this is a warning from above for Ryan, a wake-up call. Hopefully, he'll turn out okay after the surgery.' -TNP

The CEO of Pininfarina, Andrea Pininfarina, was killed early this morning after the motorbike he was riding on collided with a car near the company’s Cambiano design center in Turin, Italy. While details are still scarce, preliminary local police reports claim the car crashed into Pininfarina’s motorbike at 8.15am local time.

Andrea Pininfarina was the grandson of the design studio’s original founder, Battista Farina, and son to the chairman of the company, Sergio Pininfarina (who was inducted into the European Automotive Hall of Fame earlier this year).

His death comes at a crucial time for the legendary design house. Last year the firm recorded a consolidated net loss of €114.9 million ($177.5 million), up from €21.9 million ($33.8 million) the previous year, reports Automotive News.

In 1981 Pininfarina graduated from Polytechnic of Turin as a mechanical engineer and in 1982 was employed by Freuehauf Corp. in the U.S. He only started at the Pininfarina design house in 1983, where his first job was program manager for the Cadillac Allanté project. In 1987 he was promoted to general manager, before becoming managing director in 1994 and CEO in 2001.

Andrea Pininfarina was aged 51 and is survived by his wife Cristiana, and two sons and a daughter.

The Porsche convertible was wrecked. Its driver was taken to hospital with leg injuries. -- DESMOND WEE/THE STRAITS TIMES

A DARK blue convertible crashed into a red-light camera and brought down the pole at the junction of Newton Road and Thomson Road last night.

The impact of the crash, which happened at around 8pm, also left the Porsche wrecked.

Its left rear tyre was dislodged and the front windscreen was smashed. The car was also dented on both sides.

The driver, a Caucasian man in his early 30s, was wheeled into an ambulance and taken to Tan Tock Seng Hospital with leg injuries. He was wearing a black shirt and bermudas.

His female passenger was not hurt, and she was interviewed at the scene by police officers.

The accident did not cause a jam outside the crowded Novena Square shopping centre, but there were many curious onlookers, including motorists and pedestrians, and this resulted in another minor accident when a lorry hit a Mercedes-Benz.

E Class Vs Honda Integra on CTE Amk Ave 1         Reply   "With Quote"
Was in the car coming home from car ride in town.
My dad was driving and about to exit CTE Amk Ave 1
Suddenly this Black fierce E class zoomed past me. Quite modded and fast. Then 2 Secs later this Honda Integra was following behind super closely.
First thought was that they were racing. cause E Class was very fierce.
Suddenly, don't know for what reason the Integra just swerved left and i think wanted to overtake the E class. E class was already doing close to 100km/h i guess.
Integra LITERALLY swerved to the left, and I think he swerved too much. He ended up doing up a S shaped drift and i heard EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE tyre burn. OMG.
Following the S shape drift was a 360 deg turn and then..... BUANG the side barrier. whole car direction changed and was facing us.

All these happened in 5 split seconds. My father just jammed on the brakes as we were the 2nd car. In front of us was this Sonata Taxi ( since taxi's can jam brake smoothly, we came to a stop kinda smoothly too. LOL)
Then drove past the integra slowly. The guy was shaken.
E class just stopped 50m further front and came down with the SUPER DUPER ANGRY face. Omg i guess road rage gonna happen.
My dad just drove off and then came the yakkings from him about road safety and the obvious need NOT to tailgate and get angry.

Just relating a accident that really stirred me. Now i know the dangers and consequences of speeding.

Bros, Speeed thrills but KILLS. (:

Cheers! ( goes off to sleep with the image of integra doing 360 deg turn and eeeeeeeeeeking the tyres)

Anyone saw this?

Two killed in Jurong car crash
Driver lost control while navigating a bend; girlfriend was flung out of the car
By Alvin Lim
A couple were killed in an accident early yesterday that left the Mitsubishi Colt they were in in a mangled heap.
Mr Ng Soon Kiat and his girlfriend, Ms Lin Mei Yan, both 25, were travelling along Jurong Town Hall Road towards Bukit Batok when the accident occurred at 1.45am.

He is believed to have lost control while navigating a bend. The car went up the centre divider and crashed into a tree.

Ms Lin, who was in the front passenger seat, was flung out of the car. It was not known if she was wearing a seat belt.

The driver was trapped in the seat and had to be extricated by the Singapore Civil Defence Force. Both died at the scene.

At Mr Ng's flat in Choa Chu Kang, his family was too distraught to say much.

An aunt, who did not want to be named, said Mr Ng, a corporal in the Singapore Police Force, was 'a good boy who didn't drink and smoke'.

A neighbour described Mr Ng, who lived with his parents and his elder sister, as courteous.

Ms Lin was an accounts assistant. Her father was a picture of despair when The Sunday Times visited him at his rental flat in Teck Whye.

The 56-year-old man, who did not want to give his full name, suffered a stroke five years ago that left the left side of his body paralysed. He has lived alone for the past five years.

The former contractor is now wheelchair-bound and also suffers from heart disease and high blood pressure.

He said a friend showed up at his door that morning with the bad news.

Mr Lin said Ms Lin was the youngest of his three children. He separated from his wife six years ago.

He said Ms Lin, who lived with her mother, never failed to visit him at least once a week.

'She knows I can't walk, so would buy my groceries and have dinner together with me. I doted on her... She was my favourite,' he said in Mandarin.

He said his daughter and Mr Ng were a couple, and that they had taken him for his medical check-ups in the latter's car on several occasions.

He said tearfully: 'What am I going to do now? My daughter is gone. I no longer have anybody to live for.'

Police are appealing for eyewitnesses to contact the Traffic Police on 1800-547-1818.
