10 Members of the House may still recall the tragic accident that occurred at Bendemeer Road in May last year, which the Court dealt with recently. In that accident, a sports car ploughed into a crowded bus stop at Bendemeer Road, killing three women and injuring six others, some permanently disabled. The Court has sentenced the accused to two years' jail and disqualified him from driving all classes of vehicles for life. But it took six months for the case to be concluded.

BENDEMEER CRASH - UPDATE ON SURVIVORS

MR CHAN Foo Kay, 44, is conscious but he may have damaged his spine and cannot move the left side of his body, said a Tan Tock Seng Hospital spokesman yesterday. He was one of four people left with serious injuries in Tuesday's accident at Bendemeer Road, in which three women died when a car ploughed into a crowded bus stop. He was flung more than 10 m.

Mr Chan is still in the hospital's intensive care unit.

He had an emergency scan of his spine to determine the extent of his injuries, added the spokesman.

He lives in a three-room flat in Toa Payoh. His family has declined to speak to reporters.

He was one of at least six people there who were thrown 10 m or more by the impact.

Another survivor, Catholic High student Ling Yuan Bin, 13, is still listed as dangerously ill, after an emergency operation on Tuesday afternoon.

The hospital said the impact had caused serious damage to his left kidney.

But Victoria School student Huang Jun Hao, who fractured his left leg in the accident, is out of danger, the spokesman said, adding that the boy had been moved out of intensive care and into a normal ward.

"He is one of the luckier ones. He is conscious and can talk and move. He is recovering well," said the spokesman.

Madam Asmah Bulat, 42, who has facial bruises, is still warded at the hospital.

The hospital spokesman said: "She has already regained consciousness. But we are still keeping her here for observation for possible head injuries."

Please, slow down. Drive safe.

regards,

Trailer driver crushed by beams
Despite efforts from the SCDF to hoist the beams to rescue the man, they had to pronounce him dead after an hour. -- SCDF
A MALAYSIAN driver died early on Wednesday morning after he crashed his trailer into a road divider in Jurong.

He was crushed when the impact sent part of its cargo of concrete beams hurtling forward into the driver's cabin.

Each beam, square in its cross-section, was about 8m long. The trailer was carrying about 40 of them.

The 23-year-old driver was pronounced dead at the scene.
