Side Impact testing ... why not ? You dont need a side impact beam to pass a side impact test right ? .. think outside of the box ...what can you do to make suicide doors safer than conventional doors  ....

Structually, it is possible.  Just that it will have to be compromise with thicker structural elements which means heavier doors.

Are there strong structural elements but light materials that can replace steel beams ?

Less weight is a compromise to Comfort , Safety and Luxury.  A dilemma for most contis.

But luckily a heavy vehicle can still race .... :)

Ya man...i think if i drive this car..i will look like "AH PEK".....it doesnt look classy to em at all or a little sportish....
Ya ... thats why only Ah Pek drives them lor. Stock wise they are not very sporty or stylish.  Volvo's focus is Safety ... but things changed ever since Ford held a major share.

We should be seeing you @ this Friday meetup ?

finally going to gasoline direct injection engines which is good..
but 1.6T turbo 180hp for base petrol.. not so appealing personally but at least nice to see them going to bring out the direct shift gearboxes to the petrol models.

here are some directly link pics..

There are a lot of stuff that are stronger than steel, e.g. carbon fibre reinforced plastic (CFRP), spider webs!, etc...

Though it is critical to understand that stronger is relative and dependent on direction of force... e.g. CFRP is stronger than steel in terms of tension but it cannot take compression... so it is difficult to have the best of both worlds... ;)
