In modern earth, my view on Maslow's Pyramid is not so much on an individual's change of needs.

Many depict it to say a person progress his/her needs up the pyramid. Basic needs being bottom of the hierarchy, and as he/she progresses in his/her career or social status the different level or stages of needs are seeked and attained. Perhaps make sense during the industrial revolution where people are either theory X or theory Y (Douglas Mcgregor). However, it is not so straight forward in the 20th century.

I see rather it's just an illustration on the EMPHASIS OF IMPORTANCE rather of each different types to us.  EVERYONE OF US HAS THE PYRAMID WITHIN US ALL THE TIME.  Basic needs are always the most important because you need them to survive, like money, health, and family.  So the emphasis of importance of each level of needs is Always in a pyramid (e.g no one has need for Esteem more than Basic).

However, there is no one size fit all, hence the difference between individuals are the Size of their Pyramids.

i think Maslow pyramid is still pretty valid.

just that the content inside might have to do some shifting, and perhaps more layers n as you mentioned, the size would be different.

as regards to esteem... there's probably some individual that think that's more important than basic. and that's a concern.

Yes still valid but the interpretation may have to take some change now vs then. I think many school of management would have already make new research on this psychology theory.

Not possible to have Esteem without Basic needs ... you need money(basic) and social network (social) to achieve prestige and status, hence the more important Esteem to you the more Basic you need.   So it will always still be in the pyramid shape.

The 5 layers are pretty much comprehensive just need to know where one particular needs falls under. A more complex sub-theory is to take each layer and form smaller pyramids within to further illustrate or reseach on a particular interest of that need.

so, in terms of the size each sector/slice. would it be representative that the lower sector be bigger in size? (hence perhaps takes up more time/effort)
