Noticed that the 2 FL '03 Celicas have new 10-year COEs. Does it mean if I foresee keeping my '02 one till or near 2019, I should also consider getting a new COE?

???

As I understand it, if I choose to renew my COE now, the residual value of my present COE is gone, I get a new 10-year COE which value is derived through a formula that takes into account preceding COE levels.

If I'm wrong, please correct.

Good to renew coe cos iz low now if intending to keep for long, cos cheap.

coe can renew onli 2x. 5 years or 10 years. So u may lose a few years off now
if u renew, but if good price doesn't really make a diff.

Hmmm. how low izit now? if it'z like really low might be worth it for mi as well.

Tip tho on renewing coe.

Cat B went up from 600+ to about 5k now.
If renew at 600 definitely worth it.

Tip 1: Wait for bad economic times. This is fulfilled . This is a bad year.
Tip 2: Wait for 7th month to renew. New car buys lowest during this period
Tip 3: Bid yourself, or get a good car dealer fren to show u how to.

I'd say renew this year 7th month. about 2-3 windows.
Bid at 500- 1k.

If the COE renewal is made prior to the current COE expiry month, the PQP payable shall be the rate applicable at the point of the renewal of the COE. Upon renewal, the new COE will commence from the 1st of the following month from the PQP month and the balance of the current COE will be forfeited.

The PQP is the moving average of the COE prices in the last 3 months.

Means if renew now, the 10 years start next month. remaining years becomes wasted.

Anyone knows how to check the current PQP rate?

Also, u'd lose ur scrap value. That's huge..
Actually. unless close to 10th year. prob not a good leap of faith.
My scrap is 21.4k which i'll lose immediately.

If plan to drive the car past the 10th year. on the 10th year, that's 3 years ,
renewing the COE may cost a lot more however.

Economic recovery in 3 years is certain likely.. by then coe prices should have gone
up by quite a bit. Say 10k conservative.

If u renew 1k now, u'd save 9k 3 years later.
If u should sell the car in good times resale value should be good as well based on the
no. of years left.

However, big big thing is. lose ur Scrap value. Soo..... not quite attractive to mi wif 3 years left.
I'd prob bid during the 7th month on the 5th year, and pray for a low coe renewal.

To renew your COE, you don't need to bid - previously, I did it online at the LTA website (5 min at your PC, and your car has a new 10yr COE!)

Can check the current PQP here: https://vrl.lta.gov.sg/lta/vrl/action/pubfunc?ID=EnquirePQPRates (check for "Mar 09" - currently $3k for Cat B)

i think the dealers extend the COE because its cheap now, and it can entice buyers into thinking that 'hey it has 10 more years left to go, why not?'
