It's the ultimate speed junkie rush: pit a sports car against a high-flying jet, and watch both tear down a long stretch of road as they gun for the finish line.
Come next Saturday, this pipe dream of speed lovers the world over is set to become reality. In case you haven't heard, Asia's first-ever jetliner-versus-car race will take place on the runway of Changi Airport in what has been dubbed 'the race of a lifetime'.
The specific speed demons in question: a Porsche 911 GT3 Carrera Cup car and a B747 jetliner from local carrier Jett8 Airlines. They will be powered respectively by driver Yuey Tan, the youngest Singaporean to compete in the Carrera Cup Asia Season, and Mr Peter Leo, once the youngest Singapore Airlines pilot to have made captain on the B747.
Held to fire up public interest for the upcoming Singapore Grand Prix, this unique wheels-versus-wings race marks the start of a month-long series of race-related activities organized by Changi Airport.
Said Mr Lee Seow Hiang, chief executive officer of Changi Airport Group: "There will be lots of buzz and excitement at Changi Airport with the Changi GP Festival. We invite everyone to join us as we celebrate the Singapore GP season."
Two hundred grandstand tickets are up for grabs for those itching to experience the race up close. Members of the public who spend a minimum of $30 in a single receipt in the public areas of Terminals 1, 2 or 3 from 15 August to 31 August 2009 will qualify for a lucky draw to win a pair of tickets.
Besides the grandstand tickets, another 500 tickets will be available for an exclusive live screening of the race at the public area of Terminal 3.
