common , this is a free world, free economy , no one can force you to buy something you wont want ....  :D
however, by simple economics theory of demand and supply ... we will just focus on creating the desire/demand for the content and not on the TV itself ... and wah lah 3DTV will be in demand ...  ;)

So this is how we do it ... putting cost aside for the moment ... ask yourself ... what is the most watch TV/Video content ? .... who are the most influencial movie makers .... that would be a good start ....  ;D

Damn ... looks like someone beats me to it .....  :(

Porn industry tiptoes into 3D video

Adult movie makers are excited about 3D technologies but say it is expensive to produce and the glasses have to go (By Dan Nystedt and Martyn Williams,12 Jan 2010)

LAS VEGAS, 11 JANUARY 2010 - The excitement around 3D TV at the International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) did not appear to be influencing companies at the AVN-Adult Entertainment Expo taking place at the same time, despite the fact that the adult industry is often a first mover in new video technologies.

Electronics giants such as Sony and Samsung unveiled a range of new products for 3D home entertainment at CES, including ultra-thin-screen HDTVs and Blu-ray Disc players, in high hopes that consumers will snap them up this year.

The adult industry is taking a more cautious approach.

Some adult filmmakers are dabbling in 3D video, but most are moving slowly because of the higher production costs, the need for 3D glasses, and a belief that not enough people will buy 3D TV systems this year to justify the cost of making 3D movies.

"We're very excited to do 3D production, but we don't feel market penetration [of 3D TVs] has hit the level we need it to be in the home," said Rob Smith, director of operations at Hustler Video Group, in an interview in Las Vegas. "I'm hoping by the fourth quarter of this year it will be at the point where we can justify doing a 3D product," he said.

Adult filmmakers work on much smaller budgets than Hollywood studios, making 3D a tougher sell for them. They also depend more on the sale of videos, because XXX theaters have nearly disappeared, whereas Hollywood can see an immediate return on a blockbuster 3D movie in the theaters and doesn't have to depend on video sales. In other words, the success of James Cameron's 3D movie Avatar, which has already grossed more than US$1 billion, is not likely to be replicated by the adult film industry any time soon.

Graham Travis, at the porn studio Elegant Angel, said 3D movies cost far more to make than the average adult movie, which costs around $25,000 to $40,000. "We would love to do 3D but it's just too expensive right now," he said.

Ali Joone, founder of Digital Playground, said 3D movies cost about 30 percent more to make than traditional films due to the setup time, the need for two cameras and a more intricate post-production process.

3D glasses are also an issue, he said, because people don't want to be encumbered by eyewear when viewing a film. "I think the glasses are the barrier," he said.

But Joone believes the 3D experience is compelling enough that it will catch on in time. The sense of voyeurism is heightened by 3D, he said, and will make people feel as if they are in the room with the actors and actresses.

One of the first 3D adult films was the 1969 soft-core movie "The Stewardesses." The film was initially tagged with an X rating and shown only in small theaters in a few cities, but was later remade as an R-rated film for wider distribution in mainstream theaters. It has been called one of the most profitable 3D films ever, because it cost only about $100,000 to make and grossed more than $27 million.

Few other adult 3D films have been made. But Lance Johnson, a producer at BadGirls in 3D, has been hard at work creating content for what he thinks will be a big market for 3D porn among home viewers. His company unveiled a complete home theater system at the adult expo here that lets people watch 3D adult videos streamed from his Web site.

The system costs a hefty $3,999 and includes a 60-inch Mitsubishi 3D-ready HDTV, a small computer and two pairs of 3D glasses. Additional glasses cost $125 and the Web site subscription is $19.95 per month.

"The adult industry has been an early adopter of home media technology for decades," he noted. "In the 1980s was the VHS boom, then the satellite craze in the '90s, and today the Internet, so we believe 2010 and beyond will be all about 3D."

Electronics makers are also betting on 3D. Several major brands launched 3D-ready HDTVs at CES and are promoting it as the next major breakthrough in home viewing. South Korean giant LG Electronics predicts its sales of 3D-ready TVs will reach 400,000 this year and sail to 3.4 million next year.

The more 3D TVs that are bought, the more likely it is that content providers will produce a wide range of 3D entertainment, according to market researcher In-Stat. For home-video makers, 3D-ready Blu-ray Disc players are key because they ensure a single standard for 3D movies, the researcher says.

Matt Morningwood, a producer/director at Pink Visual, has also started making 3D adult video content. The company filmed six 3D video clips for the iPhone. A separate company made a special shell with a slide-in screen to allow iPhone users to watch 3D porn on their handsets without glasses.

While 3D on TVs and in theaters requires glasses, at least for the foreseeable future, glasses-free technologies are already available for small screens that are viewed close up, such as the Wazabee 3DeeShell for the iPhone 3G.

"To see porn on an iPhone without the glasses, I think that's key," he said. "I think for 3D to really take off we have to ditch the glasses."

Working in 3D production is very different from traditional filming, he said.

"We noticed when we were watching the footage later that you have to frame things differently for 3D," he said. When part of an arm or leg is cut out of a shot in a 2D movie it looks okay, he said, but in 3D it looks "kind of strange."

He is hoping 3D TVs will take off this year and said Pink Visual plans to have a 3D Blu-ray Disc out in about September or October. The plan depends heavily on how many people buy 3D home entertainment systems this year.

One thing adult filmmakers won't have to worry about is how actresses will respond to 3D. In the transition to high-definition TV, some actresses said the level of detail made them self-conscious. But several actresses interviewed at the adult expo here sounded enthusiastic about 3D.

"I'm very excited about 3D, I think it's awesome," said Raven Alexis, an actress at Digital Playground. "It's like being there in the film, and for adult entertainment and people watching porn I think it will be really exciting to actually feel like you're there in the scene with the person."

well tv content will play a major part in the way things will move in this area.

so with 3D, what's shown are becoming more realism to reality.

ps. too bad it will never beat live shows. if only local have something like tiger shows. :D

Inventor unveils $7,000 talking sex robot
http://edition.cnn.com/2010/TECH/02/01/sex.robot/index.html?hpt=T2

Inventor Douglas Hines with Roxxxy, his computerized sex robot that can carry on a conversation and have a simulated orgasm.

Quote
Las Vegas, Nevada (CNN) -- To some men, she might seem like the perfect woman: She's a willowy 5 feet 7 and 120 pounds. She'll chat with you endlessly about your interests. And she'll have sex whenever you please -- as long as her battery doesn't run out.

Meet Roxxxy, who may be the world's most sophisticated talking female sex robot. For $7,000, she's all yours.

"She doesn't vacuum or cook, but she does almost everything else," said her inventor, Douglas Hines, who unveiled Roxxxy last month at the Adult Entertainment Expo in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Lifelike dolls, artificial sex organs and sex-chat phone lines have been keeping the lonely company for decades. But Roxxxy takes virtual companionship to a new level.

Powered by a computer under her soft silicone "skin," she employs voice-recognition and speech-synthesis software to answer questions and carry on conversations. She even comes loaded with five distinct "personalities," from Frigid Farrah to Wild Wendy, that can be programmed to suit customers' preferences.

"There's a tremendous need for this kind of product," said Hines, a computer scientist and former Bell Labs engineer.

Roxxxy won't be available for delivery for several months, but Hines is taking pre-orders through his Web site, TrueCompanion.com, where thousands of men have signed up.

"They're like, 'I can't wait to meet her,' " Hines said. "It's almost like the anticipation of a first date."

Women have inquired about ordering a sex robot, too. Hines says a female sex therapist even contacted him about buying one for her patients.

Roxxxy has been like catnip to talk-show hosts since her debut at AEE, the largest porn-industry convention in the country. In a recent monologue, Jay Leno expressed amazement that a sex robot could carry on lifelike conversations and express realistic emotions.

"Luckily, guys," he joked, "there's a button that turns that off."

Curious conventioneers packed Hines' AEE booth last month in Las Vegas, asking questions and stroking Roxxxy's skin as she sat on a couch in a black negligee.

"Roxxxy generated a lot of buzz at AEE," said Grace Lee, spokeswoman for the porn-industry convention. "The prevailing sentiment of everyone I talked to about Roxxxy is 'version 1.0,' but people were fascinated by the concept, and it caused them to rethink the possibilities of 'sex toys.' "

Hines, a self-professed happily married man from Lincoln Park, New Jersey, says he spent more than three years developing the robot after trying to find a marketable application for his artificial-intelligence technology.

Roxxxy's body is made from hypoallergenic silicone -- the kind of stuff in prosthetic limbs -- molded over a rigid skeleton. She cannot move on her own but can be contorted into almost any natural position. To create her shape, a female model spent a week posing for a series of molds.

The robot runs on a self-contained battery that lasts about three hours on one charge, Hines says. Customers can recharge Roxxxy with an electrical cord that plugs into her back.

A motor in her chest pumps heated air through a tube that winds through the robot's body, which Hines says keeps her warm to the touch. Roxxxy also has sensors in her hands and genital areas -- yes, she is anatomically correct -- that will trigger vocal responses from her when touched. She even shudders to simulate orgasm.

When someone speaks to Roxxxy, her computer converts the words to text and then uses pattern-recognition software to match them against a database containing hundreds of appropriate responses. The robot then answers aloud -- her prerecorded "voice" is supplied by an unnamed radio host -- through a loudspeaker hidden under her wig.

"Everything you say to her is processed. It's very near real time, almost without delay," Hines said of the dynamics of human-Roxxxy conversation. "To make it as realistic as possible, she has different dialogue at different times. She talks in her sleep. She even snores." (The snoring feature can be turned off, he says.)

Roxxxy understands and speaks only English for now, but Hines' True Companion company is developing Japanese and Spanish versions. For an extra fee, he'll also record customizable dialogue and phrases for each client, which means Roxxxy could talk to you about NASCAR, say, or the intricacies of politics in the Middle East.

Hines believes that Roxxxy is a step above other love dolls -- the similar but mute RealDoll costs about $5,500 -- because her conversational abilities provide something close to emotional companionship. His customer base? Shy, awkward or older men who "have trouble meeting girls," he says.

In an industry known for pushing the technological envelope, observers are curious about how Roxxxy will fare in the marketplace.

"Is this a viable product? Yes," said Sherri Shaulis, an editor at Adult Video News, a trade magazine for the pornographic industry. "There's a market for it. Granted, it's a very small market."

Maybe not. TrueCompanion claims that more than 4,000 men have placed pre-orders for Roxxxy robots, and another 20,000 or so have requested information about the product. TrueCompanion also is developing a male sex robot, named Rocky.

"There's really nothing like this on the market," said Hines, who speaks of his unique creation with what seems like genuine affection. "Whenever she's out in public, everyone wants to talk to her and pose for pictures. It's so cute."
