looks like a Starlet. fellow died. small car sandwiched. could he have saved himself by getting a bigger car? could he have saved himself by allowing for a greater distance between the front car n his? perhaps. drive safe.

Lorry smashes into car, crushes driver to death By Carolyn Quek The horrendous accident, which caused another car and SBS bus to be hit, took place on Loyang Avenue towards Tampines Road at about 3.30 pm. -- ST PHOTOS: JOYCE FANG View more photos A LORRY rammed into another in front, swiped it off the lane, and ploughed into a car, crushing the driver inside to death on Tuesday afternoon.
The horrendous accident, which caused another car and SBS bus to be hit, took place on Loyang Avenue towards Tampines Road at about 3.30 pm, causing a massive traffic jam in the area.
Eyewitnesses said the lorry first hit a lorry in the centre lane, side-swiped it to the left and went on to slam a car, which was slowing to a stop at the junction. Ahead of the car was another car and an SBS bus.
Mr Koh Yong Soon, 40, who was a passenger in the lorry hit, told The Straits Times: 'Everything happened so fast. After our lorry was rammed, it ploughed into the car infront and went on top of it, crushing the car and driver. The driver died on the spot.'
Mr Koh, who works for Chong Heng Paper Products, and his colleague, who drove the lorry, were unhurt, but two Chinese men were taken to Changi General Hospital.
The accident drew a big crowd and sparked a traffic snarl. via : http://www.straitstimes.com/Latest%2BNews/Singapore/STIStory_215676.html?vgnmr=1================= and on stomp... http://singaporeseen.stomp.com.sg/singaporeseen/viewContent.jsp?id=15915http://singaporeseen.stomp.com.sg/singaporeseen/viewContent.jsp?id=15914http://singaporeseen.stomp.com.sg/singaporeseen/viewContent.jsp?id=15816http://singaporeseen.stomp.com.sg/singaporeseen/viewContent.jsp?id=15779http://singaporeseen.stomp.com.sg/singaporeseen/viewContent.jsp?id=15777http://singaporeseen.stomp.com.sg/singaporeseen/viewContent.jsp?id=15961http://singaporeseen.stomp.com.sg/singaporeseen/viewContent.jsp?id=15943http://singaporeseen.stomp.com.sg/singaporeseen/viewContent.jsp?id=15940roads are wet. please slow down. drive safe. *incidentally, change out those worn tyres. and opt for wet bias tyre for this weather.

have some sort of confirmation it was a Starlet. EP series. (as read from MCF) interesting discussion that followed. if it had being a more modern car, would he had survived? as via this : http://singaporeseen.stomp.com.sg/singaporeseen/viewContent.jsp?commentPageNo=1&id=6107#comment ...... however this Latio was a different case as it had no cars in front of it to "sandwich" it. but it does look like it would have survive an impact better than the old Starlet.

Not counting the Autobahn where there are no speed limits along certain stretches, I guess the highest speed limit in the world is the Dubai - Abu Dhabi highway otherwise known as Sheikh Zayed Highway where it is a posted 160kph. Many people use the highway as an unofficial test track despite all manner of cars/buses/lorries also using it. For kicks, some people I know would bet just to be the 1st to reach a certain hotel and disregard the fines that come their way (they budget a certain amount annually for this) and routinely average 250-300 kph. This road is the deadliest in the whole of the UAE and stretches throughout all 7 emirates and is the common connector for the country. Crashes when they do occur are spectacular at that speed and rise during the holy month of Ramadan when drivers are tired and eager to go home to eat. Something happened recently last week when a reported 9 people died, 150 were injured and 200 cars were affected. Take a look : There's also a video of this : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lu3aOW1NRWg&feature=related Driving in dubai has always been *exciting* and cars + petrol are cheap but they carry their own risks. There have been times I thank my lucky stars. Our drivers may not be angels but I consider us as among the safest countries in the world. Take care during this rainy period and drive safe! via : http://vagsg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=9830
